About Me
Author Portia believes that through the eyes and minds of children, a dull and misunderstood world, can become a polished masterpiece of colorful reality. Portia knew from the time she was a student in third grade that someday, she too, would become a teacher. Her mother was her inspiration and taught middle school.
Portia is one of five siblings. Now retired, she received a Master’s degree in Education, and became certified to teach in 2004, while studying at Letourneau University in Houston, Texas. Nearly all of her family members far and near are Educators. Portia was crowned, “Teacher of the Year” in 2010, in the North Forest School District, Houston, Texas. To date, Portia has written around 30 children’s books, 14 are currently available on the websites of Amazon, Barnes and Noble and publisher, Xlibris. Jasmine and The Old Oak Tree, her first book, was born through the curiosity of her then, six year old, inquisitive Great Niece, Jasmine. Portia says most of her days are spent doing what she loves, writing! Many of her illustrations are created by her too! Portia’s books are recommended for eight year olds and up.
